Pronunciation Guide
The Southern Shore
DJ – as in “judge,” or “gym.”
GH – In Indas, a fricative as in the Arabic letter ghayn. Similar to the “ch” in Scottish “loch” combined with the French rolled r. In Qemassen and eq-Anout, pronounced as “ch”as in “loch.” Either pronunciation would be intelligible in each country.
J – zh, as in French. E.g. “joie de vivre.”
Q – a hard “c” sound, as in “cat,” or “kingdom.”
Lorar and the North
AE – long “a” as in “say,” or “game.”
EI – long “i” as in “sigh,” or “ice.”
IE – long “e” as in “bee,” or “tree.”
K – a hard “c” sound, as in “cat,” or “kingdom.”

ABRAXAS (uh-BRAKS-us): An actor.
ASHMODAI (ASH-moh-dye): An actor.
ASHTARA ET-MONIQA (ash-TAH-ruh): Princess of Qemassen. Ashtaroth’s twin sister. Daughter of Moniqa and Eshmunen.
ASHTAROTH EQ-ESHMUNEN (ASH-tuh-roth): A prince of Qemassen. Ashtara’s twin brother. Son of Moniqa and Eshmunen.
AURELIUS EQ-ESHMUNEN (or-AY-lee-us): Eldest son of Moniqa and Eshmunen. Named for Moniqa’s deceased lover. Diminutive: Aurel (OR-ehl).
CHETI EQ-HOREB (CHEH-tee): Servant to the Semassenqa. A scribe.
DAANA ET-TITRIT (DAH-nuh): High priestess (heq-Ashqat) of the goddess Qalita
DANSILA (DAN-sihl-uh), SADAT (suh-DAT), and ELISHA (eh-LEE-shuh): Acolytes in the temple of Qalita.
DASHEL EQ-YEREMI (DASH-uhl): Royal companion to Moniqa and her children, son of Yeremi, the royal mahout. Brother of Sarah, a merchant. An Erun servant.
DJANA ET-BIDAL (DJA-nuh): An Ajwatat princess and ambassador to Qemassen, companion to the royal children.
ESHANT ET-LORIQA (uh-SHANT): An acolyte in the temple of Qalita.
ESHMUNEN EQ-ISIR (ESH-mun-nehn): King of Qemassen, father of Ashtaroth, Ashtara, Qwella, Himalit, and Aurelius. Husband of Moniqa.
FADIL EQ-HITANKHY (fad-EEL): Anata ambassador to Qemassen.
FRITHA EQ-IFAR (FREE-thuh): Feislandan ambassador to Qemassen, member of King Ossa’s court.

QIRANI EQ-MALEQ (ki-RAHN-ee): Samelqo’s Anan physician.
QORBAN (KOR-bahn): A naval captain and member of the Semassenqa. Husband of Titrit.
QWELLA ET-MONIQA (KWEHL-luh): Massenqa princess. Youngest daughter of Moniqa and Eshmunen.
RESHITH (reh-SHEETH): A child-prince of the Semassenqa. Son of Himalit, brother to Hiram.
SABEQ EQ-SABAAL (SAH-bek): Qanmi’s brother. A wealthy man. Diminutive form: Sabé (SAH-bay).
SAMELQO EQ-MILQAR (suh-MEHL-koh): Heq-Ashqen (high priest) of the Massenqa. High priest of the goddess Tanata. Diminutive: Samé (SAH-may).
